When the Taos Poetry Circus asked me to become a dead poet Vachel Lindsay and perform his work, along with Laurie Macrae, who was to perform and enact the poetry of Marianne Moore, I immediately felt my dream to enact the greatest American performance poet Vachel Lindsay was coming true. And it did. As you can see from the enclosed articles I put on my brown gabardine Lindsay suit and recited, read, chanted from some of the best selections from Mr. Lindsay’s work that I could fit in the time allowed.
My thin frame is suited to that of Mr. Lindsay’s and the fact that I am known as a performance poet, some say a pioneer in that respect, made the endeavor all the more challenging and exciting. Audiences in both Santa Fe and Taos approved, and I hope to present one of America’s greatest poets, favorite for decades of the English teachers of America, again, as well as I can, again!* Photographs Provided by the New Mexico Humanities Council, Jim Moore.
